Safari User Guide
In the Safari app on your Mac, use Passwords preferences to view, add, or edit user names and passwords you saved for websites. To change these preferences, choose Safari > Preferences, then click Passwords.

Search field | Search website addresses and user names in the list below. | ||||||||||
List | Lists websites that you saved user names and passwords for while signing in, and websites that you saved user names and passwords for in Passwords preferences. The list also shows websites you didn’t save passwords for. If a website’s password shows “never saved,” it can’t be autofilled. To use AutoFill for that website, click to remove it from this list. Then click to add the website, your user name, and your password to the list. A warning icon is shown next to a website for any of the following reasons:
If you reuse a password across different websites, or you have an easily guessed password for a website, details appear above your user name and password. Reusing passwords across different websites isn’t recommended—if an attacker knows your password for one website, they might be able to access your accounts on other websites. To create a stronger or unique password for the selected website, click Change Password on Website. | ||||||||||
User Name | Your user name for the selected website. To copy the user name, Control-click the name, then choose Copy User Name. | ||||||||||
Password | The password for the selected website.

Add | Add websites, user names, and passwords to the list. Safari can autofill your user name and password for any websites you add. See Autofill your user name and password in Safari. | ||||||||||

Action pop-up menu | Import or export user names and passwords for your website accounts. To import user names and passwords you exported from another browser into Safari, click the Action pop-up menu , choose Import Passwords, then select a CSV file. To save the user names and passwords for your website accounts in a CSV file, click the Action pop-up menu , choose Export Passwords, click Export Passwords, type a filename, then click Save. The CSV file contains website titles, website addresses, user names, and passwords. Note: The CSV file is not encrypted, and anyone who reads the file can see your passwords. | ||||||||||
Share a password | Send the password for the selected website to someone in your contacts list (in the Contacts app) using AirDrop. To send to a Mac, the person must allow themselves to be discovered in AirDrop in the Finder. To send to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, ask the person to open Control Center and turn on AirDrop. iCloud Keychain must be set up on iPhone or iPod touch (iOS 6 or later), or iPad. | ||||||||||
Edit | Update the user name or password if you changed them on the website, change your password by visiting the website, or delete the password from your keychain. If the website supports verification codes, go to the website, sign in, then get a setup key. Click Enter Setup Key, then enter the key. This extra level of security helps guarantee your identity. | ||||||||||
Detect compromised passwords | Receive a message if any of your passwords are found on lists of exposed or breached passwords. | ||||||||||
To sort the website list, click a column heading. For example, to focus on websites with saved passwords, bring them to the top of the list by clicking the Password column heading. Click again to change the sort direction.
